The Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Lalambung Makhong today organized the 9th annual function show of traditional dance at the Jawaharlal Manipur Dance Academy today.
Governor Ved Marwah and Padmashree N Khelchandra were the chief guest and the president of the function.
In his speech, Marwah said that the cultural tradition of Manipur is as colorful as it is varied and the richness of the culture is a tapestry with myriad designs and colors, each pattern exquisite in itself, flowing into each other to create a work of exquisite beauty.
Stating that culture is inherent in Manipuris, he said traditional dance is a rare asset of the people.
The Governor said that culture is neither merely performing arts and literature, nor a set of values, symbols and myths as generally accepted.
It is a way of living, dynamic and variable and a potent and strong building force among human beings.
It is not merely admired and drawn up but it has to be studied in depth as a means of identification and mutual understanding, he said.
He exhorted the people to make every effort for promotion of the dances of Manipur.
